Note: Holmes Trailers is one of the Companies that fought the Reflector Tape Law in Virginia. They use a cheap reflector that falls off... The issue is.. it is not working so why not put the DOT Type C-2 Tape on the Trailer... Because it cost $8.00.

Another View of suspect trailer from Vermeer... Safety chains are suspect...

Overloaded trailer... look at the tires.. are they rated to tow??? The trailer tire is not rated as a
ST Tire and look at the axle... how long will it take the punishment before it breaks?

A Complete Violation!! No Inspection Sticker at All!!!! Look at the Safety Chains they should not be dragging on the ground.... The Hitch is starting to have Metal Fatigue The pin is just a piece of wire... an accident just waiting to happen.... Complete Violation Of Federal Laws...

Another View Of suspect Trailer

This is a view of a homemade trailer.... Yes anybody can do the same... they can go to the dump and buy a Old Pick up truck and just cut it in half and make a trailer. Is this trailer SAFE?

Again... This is happening in EVERY STATE and IN EVERY locality.

Here is what happen in Virginia...

It was caused by a HOMEMADE TRAILER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"In Summary, this crash was caused when a homemade trailer detached from the pick up
that towed it. It struck a Cadillac traveling in lthe opposing lanes of traffic, fatally
injuring the driver. Trailers are a special class of vehicle and all are subject to some
requirements regarding lights and chains. While the Code exempts some smaller trailers,
those designed to carry over 3000 pounds are required to have brakes and to be inspected
beyond the initial visual confirmations of a VIN plate.

"HOWEVER, VIRGINIA STATE CODE IS SILENT AS TO ANY DESIGN OR
CONSTRUCTION SPECIFICATIONS FOR THOSE VEHICLES OR FOR TOWING
CHAINS AND HITCHES. The purpose of this TECHNICAL ALERT is to draw attention
to the POTENTIAL dangers of unsafe trailers on roadways in the Commonwealth. In many
cases, towed trailers may be in OBVIOUS violations of safety codes that relate to lighting,
braking and inspection requirements. Wherever possible, LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS
should be trained in ways to quickly and easily identify such vehicles. In other cases, a trailer
may meet all legal requirements but still be hazardous when used in transportation. THE TEAM
RECOMMENDS THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES, THE DEPARTMENT
OF STATE POLICE AND OR MEMBERS OF THE VIRGINIA GENERAL ASSEMBLY
REVIEW THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATIVE CODE AND CONSIDER WAYS TO
IMPROVE SAFETY WITH REGARD TO TRAILERS OPERATED ON VIRGINIA ROADS.

I did not write this the crash team did. Can you guess what's been done so far???
NOTHING!!!!!!! Except to push me away, I asked for help and all I get in return is a
revision to my law trying to undo it. This is not the way it should be........

Weekly Violations Week Of January 18

NOTE: Click on picture to get full size image!

Lights are not working, objects in trailer blocking working lights on pick up but at least he has Reflector tape.

This company has a total disregard for trailer safety. I have over 10 pictures of this company and all have violations. No Safety Chain!!! Breakaway cable not connected!

No pin in the hole. Bumper is not rated to tow this trailer, chains are not hooked properly and the trailer is in deplorable condition.

This is Holmes Trailers idea of complying with the Reflector Tape law in Virginia. They are so cheep they put these two little reflectors on each end of the trailer. I have called numerous times about the quality of their product and never got a phone call back. The point is the DOT C-2 Tape from 3M company is simply the best and easiest way to comply with the law.

No Tape on back of trailer and in rain conditions you can see how hard it is to see this trailer.

This trailer has not been inspected since 2000!!! What is worse it was taken ONE BLOCK from the State Police Office On US 1... This is a total violation of Federal Standards.

Here is that Lawn Company Again... Expired Inspection Sticker... Hitch is starting to FAIL and no breakaway cable is hooked up and no pin in the hole.
